The Passion of the Christ
We saw the movie on opening day, The Passion of the Christ. It was unbelieveable. I think it is the most powerful thing I have ever seen in my life. It is so easy to say, "Jesus died for my sins." without realizing what that really means. This film helps me understand in a deeper way than ever before what Jesus did for me. His body was literally torn and broken... not to mention the torment of His soul when the sin of the world was placed upon Him. There is all this talk about too much violence and blood. I disagree. It seems a very accurate portrayal of actual crucifixtion, and what He went through on my behalf. There was sobbing throughout the audience as people watched the horror of His sacrifice. When I got home I read my bible and prayed. I was reminded of the following scripture:
His appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any man and his form marred beyond human likeness.
Isaiah 52:14
I looked up the word "disfigured" in my concordance. It literally means:
to decay, ruin, batter, cast off, destroy, mar, spill, utterly waste.
Wow!
Dear Jesus, thank you so much for what you did for me. Thank you that you loved me and gave yourself for me. Thank you that you allowed your body to be torn, broken, and disfigured for me. Help me to know and appreciate your sacrifice deeper than I ever have before. Help me to never forget what you have done for me. Jesus, you spilled your very life for me. Help me now to spill my very life for you. I pray in Jesus name.
